Eve Mining Guide – Your Free Skill Plan

Hey all,

If you read my previous post, you will know what this post is all about, and yes, I am providing the free skillplan for download in this post :)

First of all, this is part of an Eve Mining Guide, if you are looking for a general isk making guide then click here.

Now, to get started with this post, I’m going to give a quick run down of what the free skillplan includes and a short description of each section of skills within it.  You will notice that I have no included ship training in this free skill plan, and it is purely mining and refinery related skills.  So you might wish to pause the plan part way through so you can train for new ships etc.  Now, let’s get started.

  • The plan is 307 days long, so just short of a year’s worth of training.  This sounds like a considerably long time, and it is, but you must remember that this includes training almost every mining and refinery skill to max level, and to have a perfect mining character with the most isk yield per ore.
  • The first 9-10 days of the plan are all learning skills.  I very highly recommend you keep these skills within it as they are perhaps some of the most important skills within the plan.  Whilst they don’t effect mining directly, they vastly reduce the training time of other skills, so it is important these are trained before anything else.  By adding these learning skills to the plan, I managed to shave off around 100 days of training time which is a huge amount.
  • After the learning skills are complete, the real beef of the plan comes into action.  We start by getting your basic mining skill to level 5.  Each level of this essential skill increase the yield of each of your mining lasers by 5%.  So by training it to level 5 we will be increasing the yield of each of your ship’s lasers by a total of 25% which is quite a lot.
  • Next we proceed to learn the mining upgrades skill.  As if the 25% yield increase wasn’t enough, you can further increase your laser yield by attaching mining upgrades to your ship, these require this skill.  By training this skill to level 5, we will be reducing the CPU need of your mining upgrades by 25%, thus, allowing you to fit as many mining upgrade modules to your ship as possible.
  • That is the main bulk of the mining skills done already, you might think “is that all?”.  The main isk revenue from your mining is effected by your refinery skills which we will talk about next.  But yes, this is about it for the specific mining skills, other things that can effect your yield are implants, and also leadership skills such as mining foreman, however I will talk about these another time, as they are nowhere near as important as these core skills.  The total time to get to this point is just over a month, so already you have a pretty beasty character yielding tons of ore from mineral mining.
  • Ok, so now we are onto the refinery skills.  The plan begins here by training your refinery skill to level 5.  It is so important that we get this skill to level 5 to increase your profits and it is also the basis for a lot of other advanced refinery skills.  Getting this skill to level 5 will reduce your refinery wasteage by a total of 10%.  This is a considerable amount and without it, you would lose out on a LOT of ISK.
  • Next the plan proceeds to training refinery efficiency to level 5.  This skill requires the basic refinery skill to level 5 and it is totally worth it.  By getting the refinery efficiency skill to level 5, we reduce the refining wasteage by a total of another 20%!  On top of the original 10%, that’s a total of 30% extra minerals you will be getting from your ore when you refine it.
  • The final set of skills in the plan are all ore specific refinery skills.  Each of these take a considerable amount of time to train and I have done them in order of ore qualities, so starting with veldspar processing all the way down to arkonor and mercoxit in the final leg of the plan.  Each of these skills to level 5 reduces the wasteage of that specific ore during refining by a staggering 25%, on top of the original 30%.  As you can probably imagine, this increases your profit margin against time, by a huge amount.

That is a basic run down of what this skillplan provides, if you have any more questions on what the skillplan involves, please do not hesitate to leave a comment on this post and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Now, I have told you about the skillplan, but “just let me download it for heaven’s sake!!” I hear you shout.  Well OK, here it is.

Download the Plan:

First of all you will need to download the plan and save it to a memorable place on your computer.  You can download the plan by clicking here.

EveMon – A Guide to Getting it Setup

In my next post I’m going to be releasing part of the Eve Mining Guide that talks about the different skills in Eve that can assist you with your mining processes as well as refinery.  I will also be releasing a completely free skill plan for everyone to download that will give you the best route of training your mining skills for the best possible profits.

To use these skill plans, you will require a program called EveMon.  This small tool can be really helpful in monitoring your character’s progress as well as planning out it’s skill trees for the future.  Once I release the free skill plan, you will be able to import it into EveMon and attach it to your character.  The tool will then notify you when you need to train a new skill and what skill.

How to Download

First of all, we need to download EveMon.  To get the latest version of EveMon, click this link.  On the right hand side of this page you will see a link for the latest version of EveMon, as seen in the image below:

EveMon Download

EveMon Download

You will be wanting to download the “EVEMon-install-1.2.8.1385.exe”, note that the numbers on the end might be different if the version has been updated, but this is still the download you want.

How to Setup EveMon

Once you have downloaded and installed EveMon, we need to get it setup, ready for planning your characters’ skills.  First of all, fire up EveMon then go through the following steps to get your character setup and ready.

  • Click File > Add Character.  This will bring up the following box:

    EveMon Add Character Box

    EveMon Add Character Box

  • Click the link next to “Get your API details from:”, it will require you to login with your eve account.  Then copy your UserID and API Key from the web page, into the boxes in EveMon.
  • Next, click the button with the three dots next to the character box.  When you do this, EveMon will connect to the Eve Online website and pull out the details of your characters.  Once it has done this, select your character’s name and click ok.  You have now setup your character.

It’s as simple as that to setup, however, if you have any problems getting it setup, don’t hesitate to leave a comment on this post and I will do my best to try help you out.  Or, you could check the EveMon Forums for support.

Get EveMon to Send Updates to Your Email or SMS

You can now even setup EveMon so that it sends you updates and notifications about your skills in your email and SMS so you can always be uptodate on where your character is at.  For more info on this, click here.

In the next post of my Eve Online Mining Guide I will be giving away the free skill plan along with explaining the most important skills included within that plan.

Hey guys, I know you are probably wondering where the promised guide is.

I must apologize as the past week, my computer had a big crash and I have only just got things back up and running, so the Eve Online Mining Guide will still be coming, it’s just going to take a little longer to get posted on here as I am having problems recovering backups at the moment.

Mining Eve Online

As you may or may not already know, there are different types of mining in Eve Online.

These include Mineral Mining, Ice Mining and Moon Mining.  Whilst each have their own advantages, some do make more ISK than others.

The products resulting from Ice Mining are often used for POS (player owned structure) fuelling, whilst Moon resources tend to be used for chemical reactions.  Both of these can sell for a fair bit, however, Moon Mining requires a POS which can be very expensive up front, and can require some very high standings that new players might not have.

Ice mining in Eve Online can be effective, however it is very time consuming compared to standard belt mining, but sometimes the price the blocks of ice sell for on the market can be worth the time it takes to mine them.

The final type of mining and perhaps the most obvious is standard ore mining or mineral mining.  This is the type of mining you will be starting with if you are a new player.  There are lots of different types of ore in eve, these are:

Veldspar, Scordite, Pyroxeres, Plagioclase, Omber, Kernite, Jaspet, Hemorphite, Hedbergite, Gneiss, Dark Ochre, Crokite, Spodumain, Bistot, Arkonor, Mercoxit

As you can see, that is a lot of different types of ore, and as a general rule of thumb, the lowest value ores are at the top of the list whilst the more valuble ores are at the bottom of the list with Mercoxit being the rarest and most valuble ore.

Whilst ores such as Veldspar might seem worthless, they are also vital for manufacturing, as most ships and modules require a LOT of tritanium to build, and you get the most yield of tritanium from veldspar.  So in large amounts, these lower end ores can actually sell for a very large sum of ISK, so do not rule them out.

I will be discussing each of the ores in more detail in the final Eve Mining Guide once it is released, I will also go through what minerals each ore in Eve Online yields and the average worth in ISK of each ore.  I will then go on to different, and the best methods of making easy ISK in Eve Online through mining.

Eve Mining Guide – Welcome to my free guide

Hey there, I would like to welcome you to my Eve Online Mining Guide website.  My name is LoneCold, and I have been playing Eve Online as a Gallente character since early 2006.

In my time of playing Eve, I have learnt a lot about the game (and to that point, I am still learning some things, even after 3 years of playing).  I spent a lot of time in my first 2 years playing, of working out the best possible ways to make ISK quickly and with as little effort as possible (yes, I am lazy).

In this time, I have come across many different Eve Online guides ranging from your general “make isk” guides, mining guides, trading guides and even missioning guides.  Whilst I have learnt some useful things from some of the guides, I have also learnt that none of them are perfect and aren’t as easy to make ISK with as they say they are.

This is why I setup this website, I wanted to provide a guide mainly aimed at new players on an easy way to make quick ISK.  Ok, so mining can be quiet boring at times and can subject you to being victimized as a carebear.  But let’s look at the facts, mining in Eve Online is easy, and once you get going it takes very little effort, AND is makes large amounts of ISK.

I will be publishing the guide soon and hope that you find my Eve Online tips useful.  As I said, it is aimed at newer players to the game, however, older players might also find it useful, so don’t hesitate to give it a read.
